Flights to Mahibadhoo start from Velana International Airport (MLE) which is located at Male which is the main entrance to Maldives for visiting from foreign countries. From the airport or Male, there are two main modes of getting to the island: you can either take the public ferry, or go by a scheduled speedboat. Which one you choose will depend on how much time you have, how much of your budget you are willing to spend, and how fast you want to get there.
The most popular and convenient for tourists is the scheduled speedboat. That takes about 90 minutes from Malé or the airport jetty to Mahibadhoo. These speedboats operate on a daily basis at specific timing and can be booked in advance, many times with the help of your guesthouse host at Noovilu Suites. It’s a fast, comfortable, and trusty way of getting onto the island and is highly recommended.
For budget travelers or those wanting to feel more like a local, there’s the public slow ferry. This journey is much longer, taking about 4 to 5 hours on a fixed schedule (it just doesn’t run daily, particularly not on Fridays) from the Vilingili Ferry Terminal in Malé city. Getting to the terminal from the airport involves a short ferry and a taxi ride. It’s slow but quite sceneric and very authentic for a visitor to travel with the local residents.
