Stay in the heart of a real Maldivian island community at Mahibadhoo in Noovilu Suites which can be entirely explored by foot. The island is the capital of the Alif Dhaal Atoll, so vibrant local life exists there. You can happily walk along its sandy streets and visit its local school, the mosque and shiny, busy little habour where fishing boats ‘dhonis’ bobbing up and down with ‘kadas’, small local shops and canteens, as well as simple cafes in which interactions with genial locals convey the real flavor of Maldivian life.

There is even a ‘Bikini Beach’ that may be reached on foot from the guesthouse. This is the section of the island reserved for tourists to sunbathe and swim in bikinis and standard swimwear. The beach itself is picturesque with fine white sand and that classic turquoise Maldivian water, perfect to while away time without having to battle the throngs at a major resort. A walk to get there takes you through the centre of the island, an experience by itself.

Not far to the main jetty and harbour area: all operations, including the fast boats and public ferries organization of your daily excursions takes off from and return to. By evening, it has the ‘happening’ feel, but very relaxed. He island is totally safe and extremely small; in fact, one can walk from one end to other end within 20 minutes thereby exploring its quite corners and lovely coastline as an when interested.
